Thank you for your interest in providing an internship opportunity for a Harvard student. The South Asia Initiative (SAI) acts as a funding source for students to experience the region hands on. We strive to create partnernships with in-region organizations to create paths of communication for our students. Please note that SAI does not match students with organizations, rather is the student's responsibility to seek out opportunities and be in direct communication with your organization. If your organization is offering more than one type of internship (mutiple job titles and job descriptions) please complete one survey per internship.
Please take a moment to review the timeline for our students:
Fall, 2012
Students will attend Information Sessions and Open House events on Harvard campus to learn about internship opportunities in South Asia. SAI will advertise partnered organization internships through our website, newsletter, and at campus events
December & January, 2012-2013
Students will contact your organizations to obtain an internship for the summer of 2013. You will be asked to provide the student with an offical letter of acceptance.
February 1, 2013
Students will submit a Letter of Intent to SAI detailing their plans and the status of their interactions with in-region organizations. At this time, if the student hasn't been able to obtain an internship, SAI may step in to contact your organization on their behalf, if we feel that the student is a good fit.
February 13, 2013
Deadline for students to submit applications for funding to the SAI. Applications must include a letter of acceptance from your organizationdetailing the terms of the internship in order for the student to qualify for SAI funding. Application components for funding include: letter of acceptance from in-region organization, academic transcript, carefully written proposal, two letters of recommendation from Harvard faculty, and a carefully thought out budget. The applications are reviewed by a committee of Harvard faculty.
March 15, 2013
Students will be notified of the SAI grant decisions. Students who are awarded funding are usually given a grant in the range of $1,500 - $3,000.
April 1, 2013
Students must notify SAI if they will accept their grant award. If so, they must sign a document stating that they will only use the grant funds for the project outlined in their proposal. If they do not, SAI reserves the right to rescind their grant award. It is the student's reponsibility to contact the in-region organization if they have decided not to participate in the internship.
Important Note:
SAI will no longer allow students to use SAI funding to cover program fees for internship opportunties. Please take this into consideration when asking for fees from Harvard students to participate in unpaid internships.
